Punjab Food Authority Bahawalpur Conducted Nutrition Awareness Seminar and Assessment Camp on Breastfeeding, Maternal and Child Nutrition
Upon the directions of the Competent Authority, the Nutrition Section of Punjab Food Authority conducted a Nutrition Awareness Seminar and Assessment Camp in collaboration with Kaar-e-Kamal Foundation at Dar-ul-Aman Shelter Home, Bahawalpur, to promote the importance of breastfeeding and strengthen nutrition interventions for maternal and child health on 06-08-2026. Approximately 50 participants attended the activity. The session focused on supporting and counseling mothers regarding optimal infant feeding practices and highlighted the importance of breastfeeding for the health, growth, and development of infants, as well as its benefits for mothers.
Participants were educated about early initiation of breastfeeding, exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months, and continued breastfeeding up to two years and beyond along with appropriate complementary feeding. The session also addressed common myths and misconceptions related to breastfeeding and emphasized the role of healthcare professionals and community members in promoting, protecting, and supporting breastfeeding through effective counseling and awareness. Special attention was given to the importance of appropriate dietary practices for breastfeeding mothers and children to support healthy growth and development.
As part of the activity, nutrition assessment and counseling were provided to participants. Nutritious meals, including chana pulao, fruits, and juices, were distributed to reinforce the importance of balanced nutrition and adequate dietary intake. The Director and Assistant Director of the Social Welfare Department appreciated the efforts of the Punjab Food Authority in promoting maternal and child nutrition and breastfeeding awareness.
