Punjab Food Authority Toba Tek Singh Conducted Awareness Session on Food Safety Practices in Water Filtration Plants

Upon the directions of the Director General, Punjab Food Authority, Nutrition Section conducted an awareness session on food safety practices in water filtration plants to promote safe drinking water and consumer health protection on 15-07-2026. A total of 32 participants attended the session. Participants were introduced to the role and functions of the Punjab Food Authority and were educated about food safety and hygiene, personal hygiene, cross-contamination prevention, food hazards, and the importance of maintaining safe operational practices in water filtration facilities. The session also covered source water quality monitoring, multi-stage water filtration processes, microbiological and chemical contamination control, regular water quality testing, and effective filter maintenance.

The session further highlighted the importance of sanitization of filtration equipment, safe storage of treated water, hygiene practices for plant personnel, the use of food-grade pipes and storage tanks, monitoring of water quality parameters including pH, TDS, and turbidity, and appropriate disinfection methods such as UV, ozone, and chlorination. Participants were also informed about packaging and bottling hygiene, pest control, compliance with food safety standards, record keeping, traceability, and emergency response measures for water contamination. An interactive question-and-answer session was conducted, and informational brochures were distributed to reinforce key food safety messages. Participants appreciated the efforts of the Punjab Food Authority in promoting safe water and public health awareness.
