Punjab Food Authority Gujranwala Conducted Nutrition Awareness Seminar on Importance of Breastfeeding and Appropriate Infant and Young Child Feeding Practices

Upon the directions of the Director General, Punjab Food Authority, and Additional Director Operations, GRW Division, Nutrition Section of Punjab Food Authority conducted an awareness seminar in collaboration with Rafique Anwar Memorial Trust Hospital, Gujranwala, to promote the importance of breastfeeding and appropriate infant and young child feeding practices on 07-08-2026. A total of 100 participants attended the session. The seminar highlighted the importance of breastfeeding for the health and development of infants, its benefits for both mother and child, early initiation of breastfeeding, exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months, and continued breastfeeding up to two years and beyond along with appropriate complementary feeding. Common myths and misconceptions regarding breastfeeding were also discussed.

The session further emphasized the role of CMW and nursing students as future healthcare professionals in promoting, protecting, and supporting breastfeeding through effective counseling and community awareness. An interactive question-and-answer session was conducted to address participants’ queries and reinforce key messages regarding optimal infant feeding practices. Col. (R) Dr. Sajid Farooq appreciated the efforts of the Punjab Food Authority in organizing the awareness seminar and promoting breastfeeding and maternal and child health.
