Punjab Food Authority Faisalabad Conducted Awareness Seminar on Importance of Breastfeeding and Maternal & Child Health
Upon the directions of the Director General, Punjab Food Authority, Nutrition Section conducted an awareness session at Social Welfare Society Dastkari School, Faisalabad, in observance of World Breastfeeding Week to promote optimal infant and young child feeding practices on 06-08-2026. The session highlighted the importance of exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months, its benefits for both mother and baby, timely initiation of breastfeeding within the first hour after birth, and continued breastfeeding up to two years and beyond along with appropriate complementary feeding after six months. Participants were also educated about maternal nutrition during pregnancy and lactation and the importance of maintaining safe hygiene practices during breastfeeding and infant feeding.
The session further addressed common myths and misconceptions regarding breastfeeding and emphasized the important role of family and community support in promoting successful breastfeeding practices. An interactive question-and-answer session was conducted at the end of the activity, where participants discussed breastfeeding-related concerns and received practical guidance on optimal infant and young child feeding. The activity encouraged participants to adopt evidence-based breastfeeding and nutrition practices to support healthier mothers and children.
