Punjab Food Authority Dera Ghazi Khan Conducted Nutrition Awareness Seminar on Importance of Balanced Diet in Rural Areas, Dera Ghazi Khan
Upon the directions of the Director General Punjab Food Authority and Deputy Director Operations, DG Khan, the Nutrition Section of Punjab Food Authority Dera Ghazi Khan, in collaboration with the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), organized a Seminar and Nutrition Assessment Camp at Paigah School, a rural area of Dera Ghazi Khan on 26-1-2026. The activity was conducted for the general public to raise awareness about the importance of a balanced diet and safe food practices. Approximately 55 participants attended the seminar, while around 80 clients were counseled during the nutrition assessment camp. Additionally, 50 informational brochures were distributed among participants.
The session highlighted key nutrition and health topics including an introduction to Punjab Food Authority and its Nutrition Section, food safety and hygiene, and the fundamental role of a balanced diet in preventing undernutrition and malnutrition. Emphasis was placed on improving growth and development in children, preventing non-communicable diseases, and addressing micronutrient deficiencies and hidden hunger. Participants were also educated on the importance of local and seasonal foods, maternal and child nutrition, breastfeeding and appropriate complementary feeding, nutrition needs of men and adolescents, prevention of overnutrition and excessive junk food intake, as well as the importance of adequate hydration and safe drinking water.
