Punjab Food Authority Dera Ghazi Khan Conducted Food Safety and Nutrition Awareness Seminar & Camp on Breastfeeding, Mother & Child Health, and Balanced Nutrition for Teenagers

Upon the directions of the Competent Authority, Punjab Food Authority, the Nutrition Section conducted a Nutrition Awareness Seminar and Camp at Jinnah Institute of Nursing and Allied Health Sciences, Dera Ghazi Khan, to promote awareness regarding breastfeeding, maternal and child nutrition, food safety, and balanced nutrition among teenagers and the community on 11-08-2026. Approximately 730 participants attended the activities, while around 150 clients benefited from nutrition screening, counseling, and dietary guidance. Participants were introduced to the Punjab Food Authority, its wings and working, and were educated about safe food practices, personal hygiene, food handling, and prevention of common foodborne illnesses.

The sessions highlighted the importance of breastfeeding for the health and development of infants, its benefits for both mother and child, early initiation, exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months, and continued breastfeeding up to two years and beyond with appropriate complementary feeding. Awareness was also provided regarding balanced diet and meal planning, adequate hydration, nutritional requirements of teenagers, and the role of proper nutrition in supporting physical and mental performance. Common myths and misconceptions regarding breastfeeding, healthy dietary practices, and the harmful effects of tobacco and unhealthy food choices were also discussed. Nutrition counseling and guidance were provided to support healthier lifestyle choices, while informative brochures were distributed among participants to reinforce key messages regarding breastfeeding, food safety, nutrition, and healthy living.
