Punjab Food Authority Dera Ghazi Khan Conducted a Seminar on Role of Nutrition in Prevention and Management of Anemia among Women DG khan

 

Under the directions of the Director General Punjab Food Authority and Deputy Director Operations DG Khan, the Nutrition Section of Punjab Food Authority organized a Nutrition Awareness Seminar and Nutrition Assessment Camp at the Punjab Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), Dera Ghazi Khan on dated 06-01-2026. The seminar focused on the “Role of Nutrition in Prevention and Management of Anemia among Women” and was conducted for female students to raise awareness about anemia, its causes, signs and symptoms, and the importance of balanced nutrition. The activity engaged approximately 120 participants, with around 80 students receiving individual nutrition assessment and counseling and 60 brochures distributed to reinforce key messages.

The session covered essential topics including iron deficiency anemia, the importance of iron, folic acid and vitamin B12, dietary sources of heme and non-heme iron, the role of vitamin C in enhancing iron absorption and foods that may inhibit iron uptake. Emphasis was placed on maintaining a balanced diet and adopting healthy eating practices to improve hemoglobin levels and overall well-being among adolescents and young women. The seminar concluded with an interactive discussion and nutrition counseling session, guiding students on practical dietary improvements for better health outcomes.
