The Punjab Food Authority’s Nutrition Section, in collaboration with the Child Protection & Welfare Bureau, Lahore, organized a 2-day Nutrition Screening camp themed “Nutrition for Every Child” on 02-01-2024 & 03-01-2024.
Proper nutrition during early years forms the basis for healthy growth, immune system function, and cognitive abilities. It helps in preventing various health issues like stunted growth, malnutrition, anemia, and deficiencies in essential nutrients crucial for development. Moreover, instilling healthy eating habits in children from an early age fosters better dietary choices, reducing the risk of chronic diseases in adulthood. A well-nourished child is better equipped to learn, thrive, and reach their full potential. Thus, the focus on “Nutrition for Every Child” by nutritionists is fundamental, aiming to ensure that every child receives adequate and balanced nutrition for their physical, mental, and emotional growth and development.
During the camp, children aged seven years and older underwent assessments for height, weight, and z-Score to evaluate their nutritional status.
– A total of over 450 children participated in the Nutrition Education Session provided during the camp.
Findings revealed a concerning prevalence of dehydration, malnutrition, anemia, and calcium deficiency among a significant number of children due to insufficient water intake and lack of dietary sources rich in iron and calcium in their daily diets.
