On the directions of the Competent Authority, Punjab Food Authority organized a Breastfeeding Awareness and Iron Deficiency Management Seminar at the District Health Officer Office, DG Khan. The event engaged around 150 participants, while approximately 100 individuals benefited from an on-site Nutrition Assessment Camp that included body weight, body fat, visceral fat, and BMI evaluations. The session highlighted the importance of exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months of life and its vital role in preventing nutritional deficiencies in both mothers and infants.
Key discussions covered the role of a balanced diet in supporting adequate milk production, maintaining maternal energy, boosting infant immunity, and ensuring long-term health benefits for mother and baby. The seminar also emphasized the importance of colostrum, iron, and folic acid in maternal and child nutrition, along with strategies for preventing and managing iron deficiency anemia. Nutrition brochures containing nutrition awareness information were distributed among attendees, and the initiative was widely appreciated for its contribution to public health education.
