Impacts of Nutrition on Mental Health Disorders, Punjab Food Authority Dera Ghazi Khan

Punjab Food Authority (PFA) Dera Ghazi Khan organized an awareness session at Zain Psychiatric Hospital Nai Zindgi Hospital to highlight the vital link between nutrition and mental health. With approximately 100 participants, including 70 catered clients, the session educated patients on how balanced diets can improve brain function, regulate mood, and support overall therapy outcomes. Experts emphasized that essential nutrients such as omega-3 fatty acids, B-vitamins (B6, B12, Folate), vitamin D, zinc, magnesium, and antioxidants play a crucial role in neurotransmitter synthesis and cognitive performance.

The discussion also addressed how nutritional deficiencies may increase the risk of depression, anxiety, and other mood disorders, while psychiatric medications can lead to weight gain, metabolic changes, or nutrient depletion. Patients were guided on overcoming common challenges such as poor appetite, irregular eating habits, and cravings for unhealthy foods. PFA encouraged individuals to make informed food choices to strengthen immunity, maintain energy levels, and enhance the effectiveness of medical treatment.
